Fall of The Dinosaurs

So, you are here again, welcome back.  Dinosaurs, eh! Well, what happened is a sad end. But not so sad for us, cause if they were still here, I would be a Tyrannosaurus writing this and you would be Allosaurus reading it. (And you were thinking we wouldn't exist, we might be dinosaurs, I mean why couldn't we.)

You might have heard that a big asteroid vaporized them. Well, we will explore in detail about this, and why this is accepted.

The asteroid impact theory, scientifically called as the Alvarez Hypothesis (Yeah!, you guessed it right, it was given by someone named Alvarez.) It goes as like this, about 66 million years ago, luck ran out of the predators, when an asteroid about the size of Manhattan (and Thats Huge!!), made contact with our planet in the ocean (now known as gulf of Mexico) and started an extinction level event, that wiped out most living thing on the planet at that time.

There was so much energy that it vaporized life in just one day.(Hence, called as an extinction level event.) And thats not it, there was so much dust and ashes that it covered the whole atmosphere blocking the sunlight for decades causing sudden climate changes like acid rains, icy-cold weather, storms etc. There were global wild fires, the broken pieces of the asteroids flew up in the sky just to fall back as fiery rocks penetrating everything and over the coming thousands of years there was huge trouble for the few beings still there.

This led to the extinction of the giant predators. And as to why this theory is accepted. they wanted an answer to the question 'What Happened to the Dinosaurs?' And someone gave them. The huge crater found by the scientists, just off the coast of Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, about 180 km across which can be made by a 10 km wide asteroid, is one among many proofs.

And the rest is history!!

SOMETHING : The Biggest asteroid found till now is Ceres, which is about 942 kms. And its also the most massive one. Just wonder if it strikes.
