Our Little Blue Planet

Our Earth is probably the only planet in the universe that sustains life as far as we know. But this fact is strongly denied by the Fermi Paradox which I will tell you about in my later blogs.

So, our Earth has all the perfect conditions for sustaining life. Like the Atmosphere, Ozone, Water, but you already know that. Your are not here for that.

But do you know how it came to be, it all began over billions of years ago, when among the millions of meteors and asteroids kept passing by our then known sun, and gravity did its part when those masses fell in the orbit of our sun. these masses collided among themselves, gravity's to be blamed, and formed a bigger mass, and due to continuous collisions of asteroids with it, it was hot very hot. There began the Early Earth.

Now you'll think, why is our planet spherical or any planet for that matter, its because gravity attract every particle equally, hence the sphere.

But now you'll be laughing at me! Cause you know the earth is ellipsoid. I know it too, and I was getting there, don't judge too fast. For those of you who don't know what an ellipsoid is, its the shape obtained when an ellipse is rotated about its shorter axis. And for those of you who don't know what an ellipse is, well buddy,  Google it.

So, our Earth is elliptical due to more gravity at the poles and less at the equator, and its also rotating, that makes it an ellipsoid.

So back where we left, our early Earth was called Gaia, basically what happened is, a planet named Theia, about the size of Mars collided with Gaia, at a very high speed. But the collision was not a head-on, but a much like side on side collision, which led to the formation of our Moon.

And the asteroids, and meteors, they kept visiting the surface, and brought Water, Proteins, Natural Gases and Even the primitive life have been hypothesized to be brought by them, or at least they brought the condition for life to be.

Then came the Volcanoes, Oceans and the Gases, which led to formation of the Atmosphere, Ozone Layer, and the Clouds, the Rains which Eventually cooled down our planet, and then it Froze. The Ice Ages as everybody knows it, and they say there have been 5 major ones. The last one, was about 2.6 million years ago.

Much before that there have been species, dinosaurs, primitive aquatic life. Then, after some time, the volcanoes melted away the ice. And some time here means about 11,700 years, give or take.

Our little blue planet became stable and life sustaining. And we came to the scene, about some 2.3 million years ago.

I just mentioned the Dinosaurs. Well, who doesn't love a Jurassic Park movie, right. Ever wondered what happened to them. There are many theories, and we'll pick that up in my next blog.

A little Shock : Our Solar System orbits around the center of our Milky Way Galaxy, and it takes about 230 million years for one orbit.
